The photo at the left sounds simple enough. Whatever will be, will be, just be glad for what you already have. Bombarded with memes and social media posts, the photo seems positive and uplifting. Remember, God's Word teaches Gratitude.
Social media posts like this one no longer bring the smile to my face that they used to. Why?
Because God's truth is far bigger that half empty - it's... pressed down, shaken together and running over!
Still, from living in a sinful, broken world, being positive and optimistic can be tough sometimes. A bit more like:
What I want is not a positive versus negative battle for my mental outlook, but a God-led, Holy Spirit filled perspective. If you've got the Great Teacher on the inside - let Him teach!
2 Corinthians 9:8-11. The Message (MSG)
8-11 God can pour on the blessings in astonishing ways so that you’re ready for anything and everything, more than just ready to do what needs to be done. As one psalmist puts it,
He throws caution to the winds,
giving to the needy in reckless abandon.
His right-living, right-giving ways
never run out, never wear out.
This most generous God who gives seed to the farmer that becomes bread for your meals is more than extravagant with you. He gives you something that you can then give away, which grows into full-formed lives, robust in God, wealthy in every way, so that you can be generous in every way, producing with us great praise to God.
2 Corinthians 9:8-11. King James Version (KJV)
8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
9 (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.
10 Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)
11 Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God.
The greatest perspective is Yahweh's perspective, and that's as "keeping it real" as it gets!
I now refuse to be grateful for "just getting by" but choose to be overjoyed at the overage we as believers experience through our Holy Spirit perspective.
